Strategic Planning Committee

The Lycoming Law Association Strategic Planning Committee was established at the beginning of 2003 to scrutinize the Lycoming Law Association, with an eye to improving its operations and the services it performs for its members.  The Committee met throughout the year and studied the operations, structure and finances of the LLA.  The Committee members contacted representatives of other similarly sized bar associations in Pennsylvania to discuss their operations.  The conclusion that was unanimously reached by the Committee was that the LLA hire an executive director.

The results of the study are posted as an Adobe PDF document, and can be read and printed for further examination, here.

In short, the Committee found that the needs of the members were not being met, primarily because the rotating nature of the LLA presidency did not allow for a consistent approach to the programs and activities of the LLA.  The Committee believed that locally offered CLE is an important need of the membership, and the executive director would lead this effort.  In general, however, the Committee believed that all aspects of the LLA, including budgeting, membership, activities and events and committee operations would benefit from the employment of an executive director.

The LLA Executive Committee approved the recommendations of the Strategic Planning Committee, and placed the recommendations on the agenda of the Annual Meeting of the membership for consideration.  At the Annual Meeting of January 12, 2004, the membership approved the recommendations, unanimously.

Since then, the Committee has met, periodically, at the call of the president to consider issues of strategic concern to the Association.  For example, the Committee was involved in the formulation of a process to move the LLA and the LLA Foundation forward in supporting worthwhile, law-related community projects or organizations.
