Obituary - John "Jack" C. Gault, Jr.

John C. Gault, Jr., 97, of Williamsport, known to family and friends as “Jack”, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Rose View Center.

Born September 28, 1917 in Olean, NY, he was a son of the late John C. and Mary Emma Couling Gault, Sr. He graduated from Galeton (PA) High School.

John was a graduate of Bucknell University and Dickinson Law School. He was an attorney for the law firm Candor, Youngman, Gibson & Gault. John was a Special Agent with the F.B.I. during World War II. During his long professional career, John served on the Williamsport Redevelopment Authority and the boards of the Savings Institution, First National Bank of Williamsport, the Y.M.C.A. and Wildwood Cemetery. He served for ten years as Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Sportsmen of Lycoming County. He was a past President of the Lycoming Day Nursery Center and of the Lycoming Law Association, and the oldest past Master of Lodge 755 F & AM (Dietrich Lamade Lodge). The Boy Scouts of America, Susquehanna Council (at the time, the West Branch Council), presented to Jack the Silver Beaver Award in 1973 for exceptional character and distinguished service. Jack was an avid outdoorsman whose many skills included: hunting, fishing, furniture and boat building, duck carving and beekeeping. He was concerned about protecting the Loyalsock Watershed, where he and his family lived for many years.

John was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, John C. Gault III (Heidi) of Orsieres, Switzerland and Jeffrey A. (Cindy) Gault of Mequon, WI; a granddaughter Lauren Alexandra Gault of Dallas, TX.

His wife of 71 years, Katherine Webb Gault, and a sister, Grace Rapp, preceded John in death. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
