Law Day Events

May 1, 2003 is Law Day. The LLA traditionally celebrates Law Day with an Essay and Art Contest with the winners announced during a ceremony on Law Day. This year's ceremony will begin at 4:00 PM on May 1, and take place in the Lycoming county Courthouse, courtroom 1. The kids always put on a fine presentation of essay reading and art display.

A member and guest reception will take place following the ceremony at about 5:00 PM at The Old Corner Restaurant. US District Court Judge John Jones will be the guest of honor. Refreshments will be provided.

Mock Trial Competition

The Regional Final Mock Trial Competition took place on Friday, March 13, 2003, with the Honorable Malcolm Muir serving as the presiding judge. Twelve local attorneys (most of whom were LLA members) served as jurors. The Regional Championship was awarded to a team put forward by Montoursville Area High School, which earned the privilege of competing in the State Competition in Harrisburg, PA on March 28 - 29, 2003. Thanks to LLA member John Pietrovito who coordinated the competition. Read about the event: www.lycolaw.org/public/mock_trial/2003.htm.

Inns of Court Open Meeting

The Charles F. Greevy, Jr., American Inn of Court has opened its April 30, 2003 meeting to any interested member of the bar. Judge Kieser's group will be presenting a debate on the death penalty. A CLE ethics credit will be available. The meeting will take place at 6:30 PM at TGI Friday's on Third Street.
