Law Day 2003

The LLA celebrated Law Day 2003 with a "bang" this year. The Essay and Art contest produced some memorable pieces. (See them at www.lycolaw.org/public/lawday.asp.) The court house ceremony was very well attended by LLA members, student presenters and their family members and was also televised on Suscom Channel 2 on two separate occasions. Afterwards, the kids and their parents mingled with Judges and lawyers in the juror's lounge and enjoyed pizza and cake. Later, LLA members honored District Court Judge John Jones with a reception at the Old Corner. Thanks to Jonathan Butterfield, who engineered the effort.

Gray's Run Picnic

Reserve July 16, 2003, on your calendar for the annual picnic. We are returning to Gray's Run for a CLAM BAKE. A special menu is planned. Details will follow - watch for the flyer.

LLA Judicial Survey

The Lycoming Law Association released the results of a survey of its members rating the qualifications of the four candidates running for Judge of Lycoming County on May 12, 2003. More than half of the 168 members of the Association participated in the anonymous survey.

Each of the candidates, (all members of the Association) Charles F. Greevy III, William J. Miele, Gary T. Harris and Richard A. Gray, was rated in the areas of competence, experience, integrity and temperament. The highest possible rating was "extremely well qualified", followed by "well qualified", "qualified" and "not qualified". No candidate was rated "not qualified" in any of the areas that were rated.

The LLA has conducted a similar survey of its membership in all recent judicial elections and has publicized the collective opinions of it members in the interest of preserving the high quality of Lycoming County Court. The results of the survey were published on the Web site and in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. The survey was conducted by a committee consisting of Craig Harris, George Orwig and Paul Roman.

Blood Donors Take Note

The annual LLA sponsored blood drive has been scheduled for July 9, 2003, at Pine Street Methodist Church. As always, there is a crucial need for blood donations in the summer, and we are looking for good participation by LLA member attorneys and their staff. Donors will receive a Crosscutters ticket and a free McDonalds sundae. Read more here: www.lycolaw.org/event/pages/BloodDrive.htm.
