Executive Director Proposed
The Lycoming Law Association's Strategic Planning Committee has recommended the hiring of a part time executive director. In short, the Committee found that the needs of the members of the LLA were not being met in a coherent and effective manner, primarily because the rotating nature of the LLA presidency does not allow for a consistent approach to the programs and activities of the LLA. The Committee also felt that locally offered CLE is an important need of the membership, and the executive director would lead the effort to increase local CLE efforts. In general, however, the Committee believed that all aspects of the LLA, including budgeting, membership, activities and events, operation of the Lycoming Reporter, organizational oversight, and committee operations would benefit from the employment of an executive director.
The Executive Committee of the LLA has approved the submission of the recommendation of Strategic Planning to the membership for consideration of the members at the annual meeting, set for January 12, 2004 at 4:00 PM in courtroom 2. The comprehensive report and recommendations of the Committee have been posted on the Web site (www.lycolaw.org/Committees/reports/2004/StratPlanReport.PDF) and are also available in booklet form from Sue Feist at the LLA office. Please take some time to study the report to prepare for the discussion and vote on this important initiative.
Annual Banquet - January 12, 2004

Members and guests are invited to the Annual Lycoming Law Association Banquet, to be held at Penn College's Le Jeune Chef, on January 12, 2004. The Banquet will begin with cocktails at 5:30 P.M. (cash bar), and dinner to follow at 6:30 P.M. This year, the LLA is pleased to welcome guest speaker Hon. Thomas P. Gannon, a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Assemblyman Gannon is an attorney and has served a Delaware County constituency in the House since 1979. He is presently the chairman of the Professional Licensure Committee and he previously served for eight years as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
Menu details and cost will be announced in a flyer to be distributed to the membership in early next week. Expect an interesting menu, as always, from Le Jeune Chef, and an interesting program with a prominent public servant.
Successful Toys for Tots Campaign
Thanks to all those who donated to another successful Toys for Tots drive. Many of the collection boxes were filled to overflowing, and dozens of toys were provided to the Salvation Army for distribution to local children. According to Salvation Army personnel, over 1000 children are served by the program.
Again this year, the McNerney Page office was far ahead in the collection effort. Apparently a "dress down" day encourages a substantial number of donations. Good job McNerney Page, and all others who donated!
Dues Restructuring
Earlier this year, the LLA Executive Committee voted to restructure the dues to assist our older members to remain active in the Association after retirement and to encourage young attorneys to become members. Members who have reached the age of 70 will no longer pay dues. Those who have practiced less than 3 years will pay $55 in LLA dues. The general membership's dues will increase $20 per year to $75.
The new dues structure is more consistent with that of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Dues notices for 2004 will be submitted on December 30, and will reflect the new dues structure.
