ANNUAL REPORT OF THE FOUNDATION

December 2005

The Foundation is pleased to report that in 2005 there were a number of accomplishments and achievements which deserve mention.

It was year five of a five year campaign to add $100,000 to the Endowment Fund which was achieved through the generous support of the membership of the Law Association.

The Foundation held an annual meeting immediately following the Meeting of the Law Association on January 10, 2005.  At that meeting, a financial report was given for 2004, amendments to the bylaws were adopted, and an election was conducted of the following individuals: E. Eugene Yaw - I year term; Joseph L. Rider - 2 year term; Joseph A. Campagna, Jr. - 3 year term; William E. Nichols - 4 year term.

The Foundation also held meetings on the following dates: April 13, 2005, July 7, 2005, September 20, 2005, October 5, 2005, December 13, 2005. The Foundation also provided financial support for thee important initiatives.

  • $2,500 was advanced to the YWCA/Wise Options in order to support a training held on April 26, 2005, where Lieutenant Mark Wynn provided important insight for over one hundred members of law enforcement in Lycoming County on the Protection From Abuse Act. The funds were returned to the Foundation once the YWCA/Wise Options received State Grant Funds it had been expecting.

  • $1,000 of support was provided to North Perm Legal Services and the Pennsylvania Health Law Project for training held in August 2005, on the changes adopted for Medicare.

  • At the recommendation of and in conjunction with the LLA Community Activities and Outreach Committee, the Foundation provided a grant of $1,500 to Wise Options in order to develop a county wide protocol for Protection From Abuse cases. It should be noted that a follow-up training with Lieutenant Wynn is tentatively scheduled for April 26, 2006. It is expected to be well attended as there have been recent amendments to the Protection From Abuse Act which will take effect in May 2006.

The Foundation has had several discussions on the future of the Endowment Fund and is in the process of developing brochures which would permit members of the Association and the public at large to provide financial support to the Endowment Fund of the Foundation in the form of planned giving, honorary or memorial gifts, and pledges over a period of time.

Finally, the Foundation developed and obtained an endorsement from the Executive Committee of the Law Association to make changes to the system by which attorneys have the option of designating one arbitration fee each year to the Foundation, The revised form has now been circulated to the membership and it permits attorneys beginning in 2006 to designate one, two, or all fees received in each calendar year.

In conclusion, the Foundation is excited to report on the accomplishments achieved to date and expects to have further success in the future as it seeks additional support and continues to fund law related activities serving the citizens of Lycoming County.
