RE: TELLING AMY’S STORY/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRAINING

I am excited to advise you that myself, the Lycoming County Law Enforcement Association, and YWCA of Northcentral PA, are able to bring to our local community a presentation by Detective Deirdre Fishel, Telling Amy’s Story, in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Detective Fishel had the unfortunate opportunity to be involved in a domestic violence homicide investigation. Telling Amy’s Story follows the timeline of that domestic violence homicide that occurred on November 8, 2001. The victim’s parents and co-workers, law enforcement officers and court personnel share their perspectives on what happened to Amy in the weeks, months and years leading up to her death. Detective Fishel will be providing a full day of training on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. During the morning, she will focus on Domestic Violence 101 including the Protection from Abuse Act, on-scene response and investigation of domestic violence. In the afternoon, she will discuss the different task force efforts that have been derived in Centre County and delve into the process Centre County has gone through to create their current unit. Currently, Detective Fishel has a co-located unit which consists of law enforcement and victim services working together in a team response in close collaboration with the District Attorney’s Office and Probation Office. The presentation will include a viewing of the 60-minute documentary. I urge you to review the trailer which can be found http://telling.psu.edu. The full-day training is a free training and is being offered to the legal community, law enforcement, domestic violence advocates, health care professionals and school personnel. You are cordially invited to attend the training.

With the help of Jessica Engel at the Lycoming Law Association, we have also been able to obtain approval for CLE credits for this training. You can receive a total of 6 CLE credits. There will, however, be a $67.50 administrative cost associated with obtaining the CLE credits.

If you wish to attend the free training and not obtain CLE credits, please RSVP to the phone number provided on the attached flyer. If you wish to attend the training and obtain the 6 CLE credits, please forward your payment of $67.50 payable to Lycoming Law Association to Jessica Engel on or before October 3, 2011.
