Mock Trial Jurors Needed

Fellow Attorneys and Paralegals --

Each year youth from our community form a group of peers to compete in the Mock Trial Competition. Simultaneously, more than 290 high school student teams from across the state take advantage of the opportunity to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated civil trials before actual judges and panels of juries. Lawyers volunteer to assist students as team advisors, scorekeepers and regional coordinators. I am seeking your commitment to this civic duty of acting as juror.

We need local attorneys and experienced paralegals to serve as jurors during the upcoming Mock Trial Competitions. It is essential that we support our local aspiring judicial minds and participate in the competition. They have dedicated themselves to this competition – now it is your turn.

This competition provides outstanding preparation for today’s high school students to become tomorrow’s lawyers. Many Pennsylvania lawyers discovered their future careers during such a high school mock trial competition supported by the PBA Young Lawyers Division.

The dates and times of the competitions are as follows:

Friday, February 5, 2010, at 1:30 p.m.
Monday, February 8, 2010, at 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, February 16, 2009, at 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 1:30 p.m.
Friday, February 26, 2009, will be the tie breaker/inclement weather make-up day.

Each competition will be held at the Lycoming County Courthouse in one (1) of the Courtrooms on the second floor. Each competition, including the jury's deliberation, should be concluded in about two and one-half (2 1/2) hours. A minimum of six (6) jurors is required for each competition. Attorneys and experienced paralegals are preferred.

Dress is business casual, no jeans or sneakers are permitted. It is requested that if you volunteer and you cannot serve on the day and time you reserved, please find a substitute to attend in your place, and notify our office of your replacement. It is further requested that everyone be on time.
