At the 2017 LLA Annual Banquet, the Lycoming Law Association recognized a number of Lycoming County attorneys and firms for their pro bono service to needy Lycoming County clients. Our lawyers have always been willing to provided legal services to low-income people who need assistance with their civil legal issues in Lycoming County.
In the past, the LLA would purchase small mementos to award to the attorneys who were winners of the pro bono award. Recently, the Association has been forgoing the material award to the attorneys in favor of a monetary award to a local charity, in honor of the service provided by pro bono attorneys.
This year, the Association has chosen Sojourner Truth Ministries to receive the $500 annual award. Sojourner Truth Ministries provides food, birth ministries, comfort and fellowship to homeless and lonely of the area, from its mission church on High Street in Williamsport.
On April 7, LLA President Ryan Tira, Legal Services Committee Chair John Pietrovito and Executive Director Michele Frey presented the funds to Rev. Velinda Webb-Smith and Treasurer Phil Wolf of Sojourner Truth Ministries, with high hopes that the organization will be able to better serve the poor of community, with the award.
