Anthony Dominic Miele, a forty-nine year member of the Lycoming Law Association, died on July 29, 2010 and was honored with resolutions offered in a court proceeding on December 3, 2010.

IN THE MATTER OF THE DEATH OF ANTHONY D. MIELE, ESQUIRE

RESOLUTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE

TO THE HONORABLE JUDGES OF THE COURT:

The Committee appointed to prepare Resolutions memorializing the life of ANTHONY D. MIELE reports as follows:

1. Anthony Dominic Miele was born on September 16, 1924, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the son of Luigi and Orsola Cioffi Miele. He died on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the age of 85.
2. Tony grew up in Williamsport in the area of Via Bella which was populated by several Italian families.
3. Tony was educated in the Williamsport School District and graduated from the Williamsport High School in 1942.
4. Tony accepted a football scholarship to Villanova University; however, his education was cut short when in April of 1943 he was drafted into the United States Navy.
5. Tony served in the United States Navy during World War II and was discharged in April of 1946.
6. He attended the Dickinson Seminary which is now Lycoming College for one year in 1947 to play football.
7. In 1948, Tony received a football scholarship to Bucknell University.
8. While attending Bucknell University, Tony began dating Matilda Noviello, whom he married on September 15, 1950.
9. 1953, Tony earned his Juris Doctor from the Washington School of Law at American University in Washington D.C.
10. 10. While attending law school, Tony worked as policeman at the United States Capitol.
11.  Tony initially practiced law in Washington D.C. before returning to Williamsport to practice law with his brother, Patrick H. Fierro.
12. Tony’s law practice covered a wide spectrum from criminal law to civil law. At the time of his death, Tony was still actively practicing law.
13. Tony served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Lycoming Law Association from 1985 through 1990.
14. In addition to being a 49-year member of the Lycoming Law Association, Tony was a member of other professional organizations including the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
15. Tony’s love was race horses; he loved to watch horses race and also owned race horses for some time.
16. In the late 1970s, Sol Wolf, a football coach and sports announcer, asked Tony to help him form the West Branch Valley Sports Hall of Fame. Tony did so and served as its Master of Ceremonies and attorney for many years. As a fitting tribute, in 1985, Tony was inducted into the West Branch Valley Sports Hall of Fame.
17. With regard to his religious service, Tony was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish Mater Dolorosa Church. 18. Tony enjoyed life. He enjoyed a good meal, a good drink and good company.
18. Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda Noviello Miele, on December 3, 1986. Tony was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cecilia L. Miele on December 24, 2008.
19. Surviving are three daughters, Lucia Montoya, Lisa Salvatori and Ursula Blazer, a son, Anthony P. Miele, sixteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
20. As a result of Tony’s death, the Bar of Lycoming County has lost a respected member and his clients have lost an able advocate.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, joined in by the Lycoming County Bar, do hereby recognize and continue to mourn the passing of Anthony D. Miele and remember him as unique gentleman who was honored and respected by all who had the privilege to be a part of his life.

BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that this Court and this Bar do hereby extend to Tony Miele’s surviving family our deep and heartfelt expression of sympathy.

AND BE IT RESOLVED FINALLY that these Resolutions be spread at length upon the records of the Court of Common Pleas of Lycoming County, that they be published in the Lycoming Reporter and distributed to members of Tony’s family.

ORDER OF COURT

AND NOW, this 3rd day of December, 2010, in consideration of the Resolutions presented by the Committee appointed to prepare resolutions memorializing the life of Anthony D. Miele, it is hereby ORDERED and DECREED that the Resolutions herewith submitted and attached be adopted as an official expression of the Lycoming County Bar and this Court; that the same be spread upon the records of the Court; and that copies of this Resolution be distributed to members of the family of Anthony D. Miele; and it is further ORDERED and DECREED that the Resolutions be printed in the Lycoming Reporter.
