LLA Member Chairs Tax Study Commission

Gary Weber, a member of the Lycoming Law Association, recently served as chair of the Williamsport Area School District Local Tax Study Commission.  The Commission, consisting of 9 members, was appointed by the School Board in August 2006 to study different tax reform options, in compliance with the requirements of Act 1 of 2006.

The Commission met through the fall to consider statistical data and to determine the method by which the District would shift taxation from real estate to income.  On November 28, 2006, the Commission voted to recommend the increase of earned income tax by about .5% to fund a reduction in home and farm taxes.
