LLA Members Nominated for Legislature

election resultsThe recent Pennsylvania primary election saw the nomination of two members of the Lycoming Law Association for legislative positions.

Garth Everett was nominated by the Republican Party for a second term in the General Assembly.  Everett is presently serving the 84th district in Harrisburg.  He first won election in 2006.  In the recent election, the Republican nomination was uncontested, Gene Yawand it looks like Everett will have no competition in the fall election, as no other candidates were nominated.

The second race involving a Lycoming County Attorney, was a bit more difficult.  E. Eugene Yaw was nominated by the Republican Party to fill an open seat in the state Senate.  In doing so, he defeated incumbent state representative Steven W. Cappelli and Bradford County Commissioner, Douglas McLinko.  Yaw has never held an elected position.

In the final tally, Yaw swept the Republican race with nearly 48% of the vote, with each of the other candidates tallying about 26% of the vote.  Lycoming County, which contains Cappelli's home district, gave Yaw a majority.

In the November election, Yaw will face Democrat Louis Casmir for election in the 23rd Senatorial District.

The Senate seat will be vacated in January by long-time Senator Roger Madigan, who is retiring.
