Rieders Travis firm awards scholarship

Hayley Nordstrom of Williamsport Area High School is the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship award presented by Rieders; Travis, Humphrey, Harris, Waters and Waffenschmidt partners and associates.

The 2008 scholarship was given to one graduating senior from Lycoming County. There were 13 entrants from county high schools and each entrant met the criteria by being a graduating senior and matriculating full-time at a two- or four-year community college, college or university and working toward a degree.

Nordstrom is ranked in the top 5 percent of her graduating class and plans to attend Bucknell University, Lewisburg, this fall.

To apply for the scholarship, students had to compose an essay of 1,000 words on one of two topics: “Is it a good thing that the criminally accused are innocent until proven guilty? Why?” or “Is it fair that Pennsylvania employees are at-will and can be fired even without good cause?”  Semi-finalists were then chosen by high school guidance counselors.

The essays and a complete list of each student’s awards, honors, part-time employment, and civic and social activities were then submitted to the partners of the law firm for final selection.
