LLA Foundation Awards Funds to CASA

The Lycoming Law Association Foundation recently showed its support for a new program implemented by the Lycoming County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association.  The $2000.00 grant will support the new Child Custody Advocate (CCAP) program. 

The purpose of the CCAP program is to provide CASA advocates to represent children involved in private custody actions in cases that meet certain parameters, where both parents consent to the involvement.  The grant will be used to develop the curriculum for the new program, train program staff, and train CCAP program volunteers.

The Lycoming County CASA is the local affiliate of a national organization that appoints advocates to address the needs of children involved in dependency actions through the Court. CASA advocates meet with the children and parents involved as well as third parties including service providers such as counselors and Children and Youth caseworkers. CASA advocates work with all parties involved to better the situation and the services provided to dependent children and also prepare a report for the Court typically at each permanency review hearing and often offer testimony and guidance to the Court during these proceedings regarding the best interests and needs of dependent children.
