Judge Tira's Portrait Unveiled

Judge Tira and family, LLA President Martino and Whitney Hart with Judge Tira's portraitEvery judge who has served in Lycoming County has had his or her likeness preserved for posterity through the efforts of the Lycoming Law Association. Beginning with Judge James Gamble, who served a term beginning in 1869, every Lycoming County Judge has been painted or photographed at the expense of the Association.

These portraits hung in the courtrooms in the 1860 courthouse. In the current courthouse, the portraits of the judges who have most recently served the county are hung in the juror’s lounge. The older portraits are displayed in the Association office.

Judge Ryan Tira took office in 2020. In the summer of 2020, Judge Tira sat for photographer Whitney Hart, and his official judicial portrait resulted from that sitting.

The result was finally revealed in an unveiling ceremony that took place on the front steps of the Lycoming County Courthouse on January 25, 2021. The Judge, along with his wife and kids, and artist Whitney Hart, lifted the covering to display the portrait to a gathering of members of the court and bar.

The portrait will now take its place among the others in the juror’s lounge.
