In Memorium: Gerald Seevers (1939-2026)

Gerald Seevers, a former member of the Lycoming Law Association, died on March 28, 2026.

Obituary:

Gerald W. “Jerry” Seevers, 87, of Williamsport, passed away March 28, 2026 at The Williamsport Home. Jerry has finally been reunited with his late wife, Adelene H. (Thomson) Seevers, who passed away on July 1, 2001.

Born January 10, 1939, in East Liverpool, OH, he was a son of the late Alice Otilla.

Jerry was a 1959 graduate of East Liverpool High School and went on to become a proud United States Air Force veteran. After his time of service, Jerry earned a bachelor’s degree and spent over 12 years teaching children in New Jersey. He then continued his education to earn a law degree and spent 24 years as an attorney in the Williamsport Area. Jerry then spent eight years as a Judge [Family Court Hearing Officer] in the Court of Common Pleas before finally retiring.

Jerry is survived by two children, Shawn D. Seevers (Dawn), of NY, and Melody B. Thompson (Matt), of Beech Creek; six grandchildren; and eight-grandchildren.

Along with his wife and his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by four siblings.

In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held.

REPORT AND RESOLUTIONS

TO THE HONORABLE JUDGES OF THE ABOVE-NAMED COURT:

      TO: The Honorable Judge Eric R. Linhardt, President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Lycoming County, 29th Judicial District, the undersigned have drafted Resolutions memorializing the Life of Gerald W. Seevers, Esquire. The Report and Resolutions are now submitted to the Court as follows:

1. Gerald W. “Jerry” Seevers was born on January 10, 1939 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Alice Otilla.
2. Jerry graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1959 and thereafter proudly became a United States Air Force Veteran.
3. Following his Air Force service, Jerry obtained his bachelor’s degree and taught children for twelve years in New Jersey.
4. Jerry then earned his law degree from Valparaiso Law School in Indiana and practiced law in Lycoming County for 24 years; he spent five years working with Scott A. Williams, Esquire.
5. Jerry exhibited great courage when pursuing law school and his legal career despite his severe vision disability.
6. Jerry worked as a Guardian Ad Litem proudly representing the best interests of children whose parents were alleged to be in need of services from Lycoming County’s Children and Youth Services Agency.
7. Prior to his retirement, Jerry spent 8 years as a Lycoming County Family Court Hearing Master.
8. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Adelene H. (Thompson) Seevers, who passed away on July 1, 2001; his parents and four siblings.
9. Jerry is survived by two children, Shawn D. Seevers and wife Dawn of New York, and Melody B. Thompson and husband Matt of Beech Creek; he has six grandchildren and eight grandchildren.
10. Jerry was a gentleman of great faith and had the honor of arguing a case involving an after-school prayer club in the United States Supreme Court, Bender v. Williamsport Area School District.
11. Following the Supreme Court’s consideration of Bender, Congress passed the Equal Access Act, requiring schools receiving public funds to provide equal access and opportunity for religious extracurricular activities, as well as secular clubs, to meet on school property.
12. Jerry was an active supporter of the Christian Legal Society.
13. Jerry also argued a custody case before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
14. Jerry’s life was dedicated to his family, faith, and service to children and country; he was a patriot and a hero.
15. Above all, Jerry was an honorable advocate, dedicated to advancing the professional practice of law, and an impartial jurist, fairly adjudicating cases before him.
16. Jerry left a lasting impression with all who knew and worked with him and appeared before him.

AND NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that as a result of the passing of Gerald W. Seevers, the Bar of Lycoming County has lost a member who exemplified the professionalism and fairness expected of lawyers, and he will be greatly missed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, joined by the Lycoming County Bar, do recognize and mourn the passing of Gerald Seevers, Esquire.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these resolutions be spread upon the Minutes of the Court of Common Pleas of Lycoming County and be published in the Lycoming Reporter.

FINALLY, BE IT RESOLVED that this Court and Committee and the entirety of the Lycoming County Bar extend to his family our deepest and heartfelt expressions of sympathy.
