Don't Bounce the Ball
With that advice from Williamsport Crosscutter pitcher Jonathan Pettibone, former LLA President John Pietrovito felt he was more than prepared for his first pro baseball experience. So, when the time came John walked confidently up to the pitcher's mound, took the ball, wound up and tossed the first pitch of the game to the catcher for a perfect . . . well let's call it a somewhat close to the strike zone pitch.
Ah well, it was all in good fun and for a good cause too. Last fall, at the Lawctoberfest auction for the benefit of the Lycoming Law Foundation, John had purchased the right to toss out the first pitch of a Crosscutters game. Although he seemed to have butterflies before the start of the game, the pitch went well and it was a great start to the annual LLA outing to the picnic deck at Memorial Stadium.
This year's group totaled nearly 50 members and guests. The weather, although looking a bit threatening, was hot and fine - perfect for baseball. The only downer was the game. The Crosscutters fell behind early and never came back. The final score was Jamestown Jammers 7 and the Cutters 1.
It's not hard to enjoy yourself, even if the game isn't going well, when you get unlimited burgers, and peanuts and beer. And watching one of our own throwing out the first pitch was fun too!
