Lycoming County Celebrates Law Day

2005 Lawday winnersLaw Day 2005 was celebrated in court room 1 of the Lycoming County Court House on Friday, April 29.  As in other recent years, the winners of the Lycoming Law Association and Lycoming County Paralegal Association sponsored essay and artwork contest presented their work for the first time to the assembly.

Judge Dudley Anderson, the Lycoming County Court's liaison with the Law Day Committee, welcomed the large crowd to the ceremony and introduced the honored guests, recently elected Judge Richard Gray and LLA member and soon to be Pennsylvania Bar Association President, William Carlucci.  Law Day Committee Chairman Jonathan Butterfield introduced the "Law Day Singers" who offered a rousing rendition of our national anthem. County Commissioner Ernie Larson then read the Law Day proclamation, which pointed to the many reasons why the citizens of Lycoming County should appreciate the rule of law.

After some brief comments by Lycoming Law Association President Norman Lubin, the  student winners were then called on to display their works or read their essays.  The elementary division winners:  (Essays) Lydia Culp - Grade 1 - Jackson Elementary School; Emma Youngman - Grade 2 - Myers Elementary School; Tess Marshall - Grade 5 - Schick Elementary School; and, Catie Kilgus - Grade 6 - St. Boniface Elementary School.  (Artwork) Curtis McAllister - Grade K - Christian School at Cogan Station; Eric Schulden - Grade 2 - Ashkar Elementary School; and, Brooke Crist - Grade 5 - McCall Middle School.  Winners in the secondary division: (Essays) Mary Imgrund - Grade 7 - Bishop Neumann High School; Hannah Yates - Grade 11 - Loyalsock High School.  (Artwork) Rhonda  Beck - Grade 9 - Montoursville High School.

At the conclusion of the essay/artwork segment of the ceremony, the five Lycoming County Judges expressed their thoughts on the student's work and the significance of Law Day in conveying the importance of the rule of law in our country.  A reception in the Juror's Lounge brought the assembled group together for pizza and cake.  Later, Judge Gray and President Carlucci were honored at a social gathering at the Old Corner Hotel.
